The Black Widow strikes again.

November 20, 2008

Life has been pretty boring normal these days.  Things have calmed down with work–for now.  But I know this is just the calm before the moving storm.  Things are going pretty good with the house, or as good as can be expected.  We have had 3 showings, one which is promising.  So I am grateful that people are just looking to buy a house at this point!  I will say that the pinnacle of our house showing did happen today.  When we show the house, I always try to make sure the black widow is not around.  I strategically keep him in the house for a certain amount of time, then let him into the woods and play, then he usually crawls under the shed for nap time.  Hopefully ensuring that he will be noticeably absent when a buyer tours our house.  Since I was so busy today, I didn’t have a chance to ensure his absence with the bizarro routine, so the unthinkable occurred.  I had to grab him, run out of the house, and drive around with him in my car.   For those of you who know my cat, it was not pretty.  He screamed and screamed, sometimes it was very ear piercing.  When we finally got to the park and sat in the car for a while, he did calm down a little.  Upon arrival back to the house, the potential buyers were still there.  Which is great, but at this point Ralph had hunkered down on my lap and was hyperventilating.  Lovely.  So I proceeded to lap the adjacent neighborhoods for a bit longer.  I wanted to avoid main roads as it could have turned ugly.  Especially since he was randomly lifting his head to get a better look at what was outside.  I can just see myself sitting at a stoplight and this cat pops his head up, screaming, with his face pressed up against the glass.  I would surely be known as the crazy cat lady or just a FREAK.  Luckily we arrived home without incident, except for the cat running out of the car like he was on fire.  He made a beeline for the shed where he remained for the next few hours.  I am sure this small incident did not help his neurotic tendencies.  I sure know it didn’t help mine! 😉

I can’t believe you were even able to drive your cat around without having him in something like a box or a pillowcase. You’re lucky he didn’t crap all over the car!
