Globe Trotting Law Breaker.

October 23, 2008

Who would I be referring to?  Why that would be yours truly!  I took my daily trip to the mail box and what did I find it in today?  You guessed it–a ticket from the Aussie’s!  Gotta love em!  I think I remember the exact moment in which I broke the law–at least the one they caught. 😉  I believe I ran a red light.  I remember a big flash going through an intersection very early in the morning when we were in Cairns and funnily enough, I told my husband I think I just got taped by the popo.  But this is not my first run in with the overseas popo.  In England I received yet another “ticket by mail”–those darned Brits!!!  We also were brought home by the bobbies when we were in Dover, England for hiking in unauthorized areas–they picked us up after I had managed to rip the crotch of my pants while trying to scale a barbed wire fence.  Did I mention that it was pouring down rain?  Keep in mind my modus operandi..I will try anything once, which has made for some funny scenarios.  Ye state troopers reading–never fear! I always leave some lawbreaking for the states!  Luckily I have been only given two tickets-one for doing a 85 in a 55, and the other for not stopping at a crosswalk where there were people in it.  Okay, it was one person at 7am on Saturday.  I wanted to ask, actually I did if i remember correctly, “Are you serious?”.  Obviously, this police officer has never lived in the city.  We are seriously considering going to Greece next year–I can’t wait to rent my turbo charged moped!!!  Two ticketed continents down, only 5 more to go!

How does that work, when you get a ticket in another country? Does that affect your insurance? How do you pay (I’m guessing credit card)?

I was too busy trying to figure out what freaking gear I was in while driving in England to get a ticket (I know how to drive a stick shift, but not on the other side!)
