Stage One Waiting

September 9, 2008

When you adopt from Colombia, the *waiting* process can be divided into roughly three stages.  The initial approval stage, the stage in which they request more info on your psych eval (not guaranteed, but history proves this to be tried and true), and then the final stage, the “lista de espera”–rougly translated to the standby list.  So we are officially in Stage 1 waiting.  We have submitted our information to Colombia and I guess they are deciding if we are acceptable chaps who are mentally sane, which is of course subject to change on a day to day basis.  Hopefully they like what they see.  In my life unrelated to adoption, which I plan on living up fully as our days as DINK’S (double income no kids) are numbered, things have been crazy busy at work.  It is good for me as I thrive on chaos, but work + adoption paperwork (mostly from the government)=too much chaos.  So I am hoping that work minus adoption paperwork will yeild a better outcome.  Although, I will be partaking in leisure adoption activities, on a limited basis, such as reading more travel books on Colombia, signing up for Latin America Spanish classes through the community college (I don’t trust ourselves to complete the Rosetta stone), and pondering the debates of cloth vs. disposable diapers.  That stuff will keep you on the edge of your seat…for about 2 days.  Other than that, it is all about the travel.  I have decided I am going to ramp up the travel, because the day will come, it won’t be so easy.  So where are we off to next…..hmmm……

DINKs? Are you making this stuff up? Does that make us DIOKs? Or DISCs? What about the SINKs? SITKs? NINKs???

Oh I love all those considerations!! I can’t wait to hear what you decide. And Spanish is SO MUCH fun to learn. I would like Rosetta Stone, even though I am more advanced in Spanish than not, but it’s expensive. I’d recommend but it looks like it may not be free any longer. I’m not sure. Too bad, it’s great, too!

    1. Congrats on Waiting, Stage One!
    2. good for you, living up DINK-dom!
    3. Rosetta Stone is fun and effective, but not the most efficient for travel purposes. Smart move on taking some classes.
    4. Definitely travel now. We can’t even imagine traveling any time in the near future with Olive. I’m already dreading the trip to see Adam’s parents in South Carolina and that’s nothin’!
    5. CLOTH CLOTH CLOTH! Let me know if you have questions about them. We’re 100% in on them.

I also recommend completing any projects around the house that you may be contemplating. Those two things should keep you nice and busy and the time will fly by.
