Is it me?

July 28, 2008

It seems like whenever we get ready to go on vacation, something not so pleasant occurs in relation to the area in which we are going to visit.  My first case, our trip to the Riviera Maya in 2005.  Only two weeks before we leave for vacation, hurricane Wilma, the most intense hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, hit Cancun and the upper area of the Yucatan Peninsula, shutting down the area and turning the Cancun airport into a refugee camp.  Which, BTW, smelled like one when we arrived 2 weeks later.  There was a silver lining to this sad instance, most people cancelled their vacations, but we forged ahead.  It was very relaxing and less crowded.  Second instance, our trip to England in August 2006.  Only three weeks before we left, the arrested and now convicted terrorists were trying to manufacture explosive devises out of their water bottles to take on trans-Atlantic flights.  Lovely.  Let me tell you, the *intimate* body search that occurred at security in London Heathrow made it a memorable trip.  Most people also took a rain check as our flight was nearly empty.  That brings us up to the present.  What is the deal with Quantas?  Oh, wait, I know-it’s because I am going to be taking a flight with them!  Duh!!!!  In the past week, they have had a hole in a plane and a door rip open en route from Adelaide today.  Lovely, yet again.  Doesn’t that make you want to have me over for dinner? 🙂

Yeah, there was a tourist killed in Korea right before we went. Real reassuring…

Think of it this way, if you have to make an emergency landing with Qantas, maybe it’ll take you to some unexpected, WONDERFUL vacation spot that you never could have imagined before! 😉
