Day 10: Road trippin’ in Queensland
Today we picked up our car. Watch out Aussies! We started with eating/shopping/sightseeing in Cairns. We had a great breakfast at Lillypad Cafe, it is known for it’s vegan flare. It was very tasty. We shopped until we could not shop no mo, then headed up to the coastal highway to Port Douglas. Port Douglas is about 45 minutes north of Cairns, which also includes sections of the Great Barrier Reef (it extends all the way north to Cape York in case you were wondering). It is a very nice town, much different than Cairns. It is a smaller community, if and when we return, I will probably stay up there. The coastal highway is such a beautiful drive. I was not prepared for the views, but it was a great surprise! After shopping/beaching at Port Douglas we headed back to the resort to prepare ourselves for a dinner cruise around Trinity Bay–which proved to be interesting. When you mix tourists, alcohol, and a confined space, it generally turns out that way. We had a good laugh. Those cruises also seem to last about 1 hour too long, we were ready to jump off the deck after dessert was served. After the cruise we made our way back to the resort and I was exhausted. Not sure why, maybe all the activity…..
